Buddy of mine went to the recent OzzFest this past weekend in Hartford CT. He is into the modern era heavy duty bands like Hatebreed (local boys who I do like), Mudvayne, Shadows Fall and a whole bunch of others who I do not know and cannot for the life of me remember the names he rattles off all the time.
Anyway he and his friends were aiming to see this one band at the 3rd stage .. where the local and regional unsigned acts usually play ... which by the way is a pretty cool thing for the promoters to do, let the unsigned acts get a bit of exposure in a festival atmosphere. Well they missed their intended targets but sat to watch another band to give them a chance. They didn't know who they were or anything but there was something familiar about the female lead singer.
Turns out that this band (Wicked Wisdom) was a few ex members of the mighty Fishbone and none other then Mrs "Jiggywithit" herself, Jada Pinkett Smith. Wills' woman.
Huh .. I'll be danged.

He said they weren't too bad musically and she has a decent voice, but not really his taste. I asked if he liked or ever listened to Fishbone and he said "not his taste". For this guy it's heavy duty full throttle metal or nothing. One of those frozen in place hardcore guys that refuses change more then the Republican party. (cheap shot)

I'm always leery about actors and such going for that crossover thing into music. 99 times out of 100 they flop terribly. It's just stupid, self indulgent, hallmark greeting card drivel they spew fourth (Patrick Swayze, Don Johnson, Bruce Willis, Eddie Murphy etc) Or on the opposite end, too far out artsy and no one gets it. (Keanu Reeves, Kevin Beacon yadda yadda yadda).
This seems different.
It's not a star vehicle. It's a band first and foremost. No matter what the critics (like me) say, they are a unit, not a singular entity putting itself on a pedestill. At least that's what I can say after checking out their web sight and listening to a few tracks.
It seems honest enough.

Oh well, time to make yet another call to the eye doctor to see if my contact is in.

Ohhh Tomorrow (Saturday) it's up to Windsor VT for the Harpoon Beer BBQ Cook-offs and all around brew fest.
